In addition to using several modalities, I bring compassion, empathy, and a wealth of experience into my therapeutic practice with adults and children. My unwavering goal is to help each and every one of my clients become a better person, feel better about themselves, and achieve their goals.
For my work with adults, I use Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, which allows people to uncover trauma by delving into their pasts to discover the root of behaviors that may have been a response to childhood experiences. This is frequently called “family of origin” work. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is very helpful when past family issues are causing current problems.
I trained at Children’s Hospital Medical Center to do play therapy for children, based on the work of Anna Freud and others. This method has children use toys to express their troubled feelings. Then, we discuss them. For children with behavior issues, I use Behavior Modification. Children can be over or under-stimulated by their surroundings, which can lead to failure to thrive, weight loss, and sleep disturbances. I’ve worked with children of all ages – as young as 8 months! My therapeutic work with children helps them succeed both mentally and physically.
I added Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to my therapeutic toolbox because of its effectiveness for treating anxiety in both adults and children. CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions (e.g. thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes), and behaviors. Clients learn how to develop personal coping strategies to solve current and future problems.
Additionally, I use Positive Psychology, which helps clients shift their perspective from “glass half empty” to “glass half full” thinking. Positive Psychology is an approach to studying human thoughts, feelings, and behavior that focuses on strengths rather than weaknesses and on the good things we have in life rather than the bad.
At times, I may lead the therapeutic process, which is known as Directive Therapy. Other times, I will use Non-Directive Therapy, which allows the client to lead the way. Regardless, I always work with my client to develop treatment goals and plans to achieve them.
For couples, I employ both the Gottman Method and Couples Institute Developmental Method. For those experiencing career or relationship problems, I practice Life Coaching. FInally, I am a Solution-Focused Counselor for short-term therapy.
